11-year-old recovering from transplant faces cancer battle

An 11-year-old Pineville girl who had to undergo her second lifesaving organ transplant five months ago has a rare form of lymphoma that can occur after transplant.

Kylie Bush has been recovering from a multi-organ transplant at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, and is now being treated for post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder.

PTLD is found in about 10 percent of transplant patients, according to the Lymphoma Association.

Kylie's mom, Joan Broussard, updated her daughter's thousands of supporters Tuesday on the Facebook page, Pray for Kylie Renee.

"This is a whole new battle in addition to transplant," she wrote. "Cancer is a nasty beast, but she will beat it."

Broussard expressed faith in God and Kylie's doctors and asked for extra prayer. Continue reading
