Acadiana family shares heartbreaking loss and decision to give the 'gift of life'

In 59 minutes Clark Decell became a hero.

"It takes a life to save a life and fortunately for us...our son has become a hero," Father, Ryan Decell, said.

Born with Anencephaly, a birth defect in which a baby is born without part of the brain and skull, Clark's parents found out his fate early on.

"He explained to us that it was a terminal diagnosis and that the pregnancy would not be considered compatible with life," Mother, Melissa Decell said. "If the baby survived the duration of the pregnancy he would pass soon after the delivery....minutes, hours, days after he was born"

Even with the devastating news, Melissa and Ryan stayed strong. They knew that Clark's life was meant for greatness.

"We really felt like this is where we were meant to go," Melissa said. "That this was the purpose of Clark. This was his purpose and what he was meant to do."
