Mother looks for recipients of her son's donated organs

ELBA, Ala. (WTVY) -- Twenty two years ago, a mother in Elba, Alabama lost her son. Her new year's wish is to reconnect with some of the six people who got his organs.

"I have an angel in heaven and I call him Adam," said Melanie Bledsoe.

Back in December of 1995, Bledsoe lost her son, Adam. He was just 12 years old.

She was also forced to make a tough decision that would impact six other lives. She decided to donate his organs and give other children another chance at life.

"When you know that your child is basically gone to heaven, the best thing you can try to do is try to help others," she said.

She donated his heart, corneas, kidneys and liver. Bledsoe knows one boy who was able to graduate high school with Adam's heart. Although the boy that received his heart passed away, he was able to live out the rest of his high school days. Continue reading
