PHILLIPSTON — Selectboard Chairman Thomas Brouillet has signed a proclamation declaring April as “Donate Life Month.”

The board further agreed earlier this week to fly a special flag on the Town Common throughout the month.

New England Organ Bank ambassadors Tom and Joanne Rich of Phillipston presented the proclamation and a 3-by-4-foot flag imprinted with the blue and green Donate Life logo. Tom Rich, a recipient of an organ donation, stressed the importance of the New England Organ Bank.

The proclamation noted more than 115,000 Americans, with more than 5,000 in New England alone, are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

A single donor can save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people. Donated organs and tissue may include heart, intestines, kidneys, liver, lungs and pancreas, as well as bones, corneas, heart valves, skin, tendons and veins. Donation becomes an option only after all life-saving efforts have been exhausted. Continue reading
